My kitten is finally strong enough to jump on the kitchen counters - help!!!!?

I have been dreading the day my kitten would be able to reach the counters and kitchen table - it is now here! We don't feed him table scraps as I did not want him to ociate the table or counters as a source of food for him nor is there food on the counter. He seems to want to play in the sink though (and cutlery that may be in there as the rest is in the dishwasher). I have caught him, turned the cold water on him, gave him a little on the backside, nothing works. He knows he's done wrong when caught as he jumps down and sprints to his hidin in the basement. Any ideas? Anything he might have an aversion to that we can put up there? I read that cats hate tinfoil - not mine, he just it up and plays with it. My last cat only had 3 legs and we did not have to worry about it so this is new territory for me! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
