Feeding finches mealworms?

my finches resently have hatched 5 eggs and a book at petsmart said to feed them mealworms. On another ? (what do mealworms eat) some one answered anything live or dead they can get into. I was trying to feed the birds one when it fell in the nest. So my ? is could the meal worm get inside my birds(Finches) or their babies? Please no stupid answers like oh if they eat them their inside them. THX
