How to discipline your child without ?

i have a very headstrong three year old boy. He is smart and talks back like a teenager. Also, does not listen AT ALL...thanks to gma and aunts for spoiling and sending home. Now I'm stuck with a kid that I really want to , but feel like isn't the only option. I've watched Nanny911 and all that trying to find a way, but timeouts don't work....Any ideas?
